by using ariel you agree to these terms. they're short and written in plain english.
1. the service
ariel is a personal, invite-only ios application for sharing posts, events, stories, direct messages, and reactions among a small group invited by the host. there is no public sign-up. installation does not constitute an invitation.
2. who can use it
you must be at least 13 years old and have received an invitation from the host or from someone the host has authorised. anyone using ariel agrees to use it for personal, non-commercial purposes only.
3. your account
you sign in with apple. the apple identifier ("sub") returned to ariel is what distinguishes your account. you are responsible for any activity that happens through your apple id. don't share your phone with someone you wouldn't share ariel with.
4. content you post
you own the content you post, but by posting it you grant ariel a worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display, and transmit it to other invited users — strictly to operate the service. this licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except where retention is needed for our records or legal obligations (e.g. cached copies in apns delivery infrastructure are outside our control).
you are responsible for the content you post. don't post:
- anything illegal under the laws that apply to you;
- content that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property;
- harassment, threats, hate speech, sexual content involving minors, or any of the obvious prohibited categories in apple's app store review guidelines (objectionable content, hate, violence, etc.);
- spam, scams, or attempts to impersonate someone else.
the host may remove any content for any reason. you can also report content to the host directly within the app or via email.
5. acceptable use
- don't try to break, exploit, or reverse-engineer the service.
- don't scrape, crawl, or otherwise copy data at scale.
- don't impersonate the host or anyone else.
- don't use the service to send unsolicited contact to people outside the invited group.
6. termination
you can stop using ariel at any time and request account deletion (see the privacy policy). the host can revoke your access at any time, for any reason, by removing you from the invite list. if your access is revoked, your existing content may continue to be visible to remaining members until you delete it or the host deletes it.
7. no warranty
ariel is provided "as is". it's a personal project, not a paid product. we don't guarantee uptime, that messages won't be lost, that pushes will always arrive, or that the service will continue to exist. the service may change or be discontinued at any time.
8. limitation of liability
to the extent allowed by law, the host and any contributors to ariel will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the service. our total liability for any claim is limited to zero dollars, because you didn't pay anything.
9. third-party services
ariel depends on apple (sign in with apple, push notifications, the app store) and cloudflare (workers, d1, r2, durable objects). your use of ariel is also subject to those providers' own terms.
10. governing law
these terms are governed by the laws of the united states and the state in which the host resides. any disputes will be resolved in those courts, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
11. changes
if we update these terms, we'll change the "last updated" date above. continued use of the app after that constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
